Description

The book retraces long-term research and experimentation, which, through comparison with international experiences, has led both to define what ‘regional design’ is and to experiment with it on the territory. The book, therefore, outlines various research directions which, starting from the institutional reorganization and the change in the shared imaginary of what the city and the territory are, put the ‘regional design’ in the foreground as a vital tool for disciplinary change in Italy, concerning both system planning and strategic planning. Through the description of this approach in specific planning experiences -including the strategic plan of the metropolitan city of Florence and the structural plans of the unions between municipalities- the book finally opens up to various investigative perspectives which suggest a new civic role for contemporary university research.
