Description
Nowadays, in Europe, the urban regeneration of public housing faces a crucial but controversial phase. On the one hand, architecture and urban design are called to tackle the inadequacy of the building heritage and open space, answer today’s housing demand, and counter the stigma of a negative image. On the other hand, new opportunities are opening up to enhance existing resources, restore qualities, strengthen performances, and open new imaginaries. This book presents the outcomes of a ‘research by design’ on this subject, addressing the mass housing regeneration of the Tor Bella Monaca district in Rome. In particular, the study focused on adapting the ground plane as a crucial focus to addressing and solving public housing’s heritage fragilities. That said, the book also presents a number of contributions from scholars in the field as well as representatives of institutions at the forefront of public housing regeneration.
