What will we be made of and what will the world be made of? Science and technology are expanding the fields of design, changing materials but also our body. In order to identify the actual evolution of the relationship between science, knowledge, and design, the MADEC (Research Center on the culture of materials design) of the Politecnico di Milano launched an extensive debate on the topic in 2014. This, titled “Ideas and Matter,” opened the way to new options for the design action. This book collects the results of this debate and a series of critical contributions from experts in disciplines outside design, such as medicine, biotechnology, engineering, art, and anthropology.
