Antonio Paris is a full professor of Industrial Design, head of Planning, Design and Technology of Architecture Department and head of the Design Research Interdepartmental Centre of Sapienza University of Rome, where he conducts design experimentation and research. In 1994 he founded the ‘University Diploma of Industrial Design’ course, which went on to become the 3-year ‘Industrial Design Degree Course’. It was joined in 2002 by the courses for the Specialization Degree in Industrial Product Design and the Specialization Degree in Industrial Design and Visual Communication. In 2003 he directed the International Master of Design and Management programme (Italy-Uruguay) and in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 he led the ‘Advanced Training for Executives in MERCOSUR Countries’ programme, which was a co-operation initiative involving Italy and MERCOSUR. He has written books, essays and other publications on didactic and design experimentation. In 2006 he was the manager and designer of the project for the Lazio Region and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade’s pavilion at the SME Fair in Guangzhou, China. He came up with the idea for the Roma Design Più initiative, which was launched in 2003 to promote and champion design culture with exhibitions, performances, workshops, conventions and seminars (www.romadesignpiù.it). He is the editor of the entirely bilingual (Italian and English) bimonthly magazine DIID_Disegno Industriale | Industrial Design (www.disegnoindustriale.net), which he founded in 2002. Since 2009 he has been the scientific co-ordinator of the Italian Design Board at the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.
