Description

Architecture as a practice is closely linked to the social and natural context in which it operates. Unfortunately, its products do not clearly show this relationship. This manifests only when the practice is transformed into civic activism, a moment in which important information is revealed about the context in which architecture is born and operates. A cycle of conferences dedicated to the practice of architecture as civic activism of a particular country therefore not only aims to demonstrate techniques and methodologies of civic activism, it also intends to show the complexity and contradictions of the same country. Therefore, it represents the possibility of a reflection on national identity, especially when conferences are held abroad. The book reports in a critical form a series of conferences on architecture as civic activism in Switzerland, held at the MARCH – Moscow Architecture Institute and organized by i2a – international institute of architecture within the framework of the Swiss Made in Russia programme by Pro Helvetia, the Swiss foundation for culture. The book is in both English and Russian.
